Escape The Studio | Edinburgh Live Show - Sat 5th May

So after a couple of months holed up at A Torn Mind HQ hard at work recording a new release to melt your earholes with, we're going to be breaking out of the studio for one night only to join Daily Dischord Promotions at their debut live event in the capital as they take over The Banshee Labyrinth, Edinburgh on Saturday 5th May.

We're excited to be joining Your First Mistake, Eleven Eleven and Precious & Grace for what should be an amazing weekend show in one of Edinburgh's cosiest live venues. It's a great lineup and definitely not a show to be missed! Make sure you pick up a £4 advance ticket so avoid disappointment on the door.

A Torn Mind in Classic Rock Presents Prog Magazine

We're really excited to announce that A Torn Mind are featured on the covermount CD of the new Classic Rock Presents Prog magazine, which goes on-sale Wednesday 3rd November here in the UK and is available worldwide!

The track 'Impurity' from our debut EP Barriers is included on the covermount CD that comes FREE with the magazine. Hello everyone!

We are very, very excited to say that we can finally announce the release dates for our debut EP, ‘BARRIERS’:

A Torn Mind - "Barriers" is fully mastered!

Today we recieved our lovely finished masters in the post! We were very excited by this! It's sounding really great!

Now that we've got the finished tracks, we've stripped all the old songs from the MySpace page (www.myspace.com/atornmindband) to make way for a full EP Audio Sampler, to give you a nice big chunk of music to check out and hopefully whet the old appetite! This will be going up on our MySpace page very very soon indeed... a matter of days. Keep checking!

As promised there will also be a brand new Preview Video to come, with more music and footage to watch/listen to.

The End of a Busy Week!

Hey!

It's been a busy old week in the A Torn Mind camp!

First:
Three quarters of us kicked the week off with a huge performance at Edinburgh's Usher Hall, with none other than original Deep Purple keyboard player John Lord - performing his "Concerto for Group and Orchestra".

The guys had a great time and played to a massive crowd. The concert has recieve glowing praise in the local press and the A Torn Mind contingent had a good night, rocking out with a musical legend!!!

Second:
We recieved the master tracks from "Barriers" back from the mastering company to listen to this week. We're extremely happy with how it's sounding and can't wait to let everyone hear it. It's been really hard work, but we're nearly at the finish line. We should get the final red book master disc back very shortly.

Third:
We played our first Edinburgh show in a couple of months at Cabaret Voltaire on Friday evening. The show was good and we had a great time. Thanks to everyone who came down and caught us live. We had a whole bunch of photos taken so I'll post a link up to them when they're all up on the various A Torn Mind sites.

Fourth:
We've just confirmed a show in Glasgow at PIVO PIVO on Waterloo Street. This show is part of the venue's genre-specific run of gigs which are going under the heading, "Shut Up And Eat Your Music".

The show we're playing has been given the glorious title of, "Shut Up And Eat Your... Prog!". Imagine our delight when we saw that!

The End is in Sight!!!

EP News

Well...

It's with more than a little bit of excitement that we can tell you, we've completely finished mixing Barriers. It's all ship-shape and ready to be sent to mastering.

Today I listened to the final pre-mastered tracks in running order with all the links and bits and bobs. It was a really funny feeling, listening to them all one after another in the correct order, obviously without having to load a Pro Tools session in between. It felt a little bit like hearing the product of not far off a year's worth of really hard work, squashed down into one 40-minute sitting.

I guess this is just what it feels like to finish making a record... I'm really pleased that I'm finally able so say that sentence. We've finished making our new record!!!

I'm sure the other guys will come on and give their input in due course, but it's a pretty special time for us, after working out backsides off trying to make a record we can be proud of by our own fair hands, from the ground up. It feels really really great to know it's all our own work too.

Other Info

On a side note, we played a really fun show in the Bathgate Music Festival last thursday with the mighty Jackie Treehorn. It was nice to be back playing live after a short brake to finish the EP. We had a really great time, so thanks to everyone who came out to watch us play - as ever your support really makes it for us.

Cheers to all who signed up for the mailing list and bought a t-shirt. We've only got 4 of the original A Torn Mind logo batch left (in Medium), so be sure to let us know if you want one of them. New merch will be on it's way soon, including girls skinny t-shirts in a colour and a second colour for the gents shirts. Similarly we hope to have the Online Merch Store up and running properly very shortly also.

We're currently putting together some ongoing content for our mailing list subscribers, so we really do advocate that you stick your name down to avoid missing out on the first looks and listens to the 2nd Preview Video and a lenthier Audio Sample Clip of the record, as well as a bunch of other cool exclusive things we plan to do. More on that as soon it's all ready.

A Torn Mind - Mixing, Mixing, Mixing...

Hello!

An update from the A Torn Mind camp this week:

Barriers
We're into the second week of mixing and Grant and Chris have been hard at work putting big shifts in on the EP front.

They've described it in the following ways:

• "Good Good."
• "Brilliant Actually."
• "This ain't no Bridget Jones..."

Apart from the last one, which I'm not entirely convinced about, it sounds as if everything's going well! Preliminary mixes suggest we've definitely not wasted eight months of our lives on this record, which we're all very pleased about!

Preview Video
As mentioned in the earlier post, we've put the first EP Preview Video up on our YouTube Channel which you can find HERE.

It's had a fair few views so far but could always have more - so if you like what you see/hear then please tell your pals to watch it as well. If you're extra nice you could subscribe to our Channel too! Imagine that!

The clip features the full intro into "Sixes & Sevens" and is the very first audio sample from the EP that we've made available!

Keep your eyes peeled for a more in depth preview video in the coming weeks.
